meat, cabbage, potato, carrot casserole

This dish is super easy to make.  I like to make it during the summer months when I can get a large head of cabbage for cheap and then I split the cabbage and use half for this and half for vegetable cabbage soup.IMG_20140728_131025

In a large roaster pan I layer the following depending upon the size of your family:

1-2 lbs hamburger–cooked

1-2 lbs bulgur burger

shredded cabbage–done in my food processor ( I use half of a large head)

shredded potatoes—I buy frozen ones, to save them from getting browned (1 pkg)

shredded carrots—done in my food processor (6 large)

Each layer, sprinkle some salt and pepper

Pour 1 cup of water into roaster pan, cover with tin foil and bake 350 for about an hour.

  1. Sorry, if I sound ignorant, but what is bulger burger and where do I get it? Thanks. Sorry to hear Michigan lost some good people. Michigan’s loss is North Carolina’s gain. Blessings to you in your new place. D. Myers

    1. We make our own bulgur burger, here is a link to our recipe. I was able to find bulgur at a Mennonite Bulk Food store where we lived. Here, I have a Bulk Food Store order it for me by the 25 lb bags. That has been the only inexpensive way for me to get it. Search out Amish/Mennonite communities, that is where you will find it inexpensively. Thank you on the blessings, we are enjoying it very much. Amy

  2. Sorry if this is a repost, thought I already asked.

Do the hash browns have to be thawed or cooked?

    Thanks!

  3. Hi Amy
I watched you make a batch of peppers onion carrot and more in your food processor then you added this to each casserole dish you were making
Could I have the full recipe please
    Thanks from Australia

    1. It wasn’t really anything..I just cut up a bunch of veggies and added them to my meat mixture to get more veggies in…add whatever you like…we did onions, peppers, garlic, carrots, kale, hmmm i believe that was it and cook until soft. Made the meat delicious.
