Hello everyone, I hope your day is going fantastic. Today I am sharing what we are going to be doing for our American History curriculum.
I did have a free course on here from America the Story of Us, which I still am utilizing those videos, but I have taken out the study guides that they use as I find they are not working for my children. This is just an update from when my daughter had done the course years ago…I find out now that a lot of it was very boring for her:)
This is how we are going to be focusing our time. It IS a lot of reading and watching videos. BUT it is a very thorough, and in-depth American history course. When they are finished they should have a great understanding about our history and that is my goal.
I chose to read books each week. I went off reviews on Amazon. Some of these I might do read alouds so that they don’t get too long and boring. As I find that those who don’t enjoy reading, will enjoy someone reading to them much more effective.
We also are watching many videos. The basis is America the Story of us, but I did throw in a lot of documentaries. I scanned and watched as many of them as I could. Always use caution when watching:) For the majority…they seem like appropriate ones.
Some of the book recommendations and videos have links to PDFs that I would recommend printing off if you would like to make sure that your student is gaining a good understanding.
I also include some vocabulary words that will help your student as they are watching the movies as well as expand their vocabularies.
I also have some topics that were not covered in the books or videos but I wanted my children to be aware of the issues so I had them research by online what they mean and write a short page on them.
This will be a very good long year of American History and I feel very confident that when my child does all of this work, they will be very knowledgeable in history.

I hope you enjoy and can use this. Have a wonderful blessed day!

I am using your old American History Course. We are on Week 22. I’m confused as how disc 3 of We Shall Remain pertains to the lesson. Also, on week 27 it says to watch disc 4 of We Shall Remain. It doesn’t have a disc 4. Am I missing something? Is there another DVD set I need to purchase?
I am glad you caught my mistake:) I just wanted them to watch all three discs:) I made the mistake of adding the 4th one. I am fixing that.
In the new study it does not have that. I updated and fixed my errors:)
I am sorry if this is to much to ask but do you have a book and DVD list that goes with this course? I am afraid I will miss something. I am going to try and find everything used. Thank you so much for what you do it is a huge blessing to our family! LORD JESUS bless you and yours!
I do not, just the print off and you can highlight all the books so that you get them along with the dvds on the pages:)
Very new to your site but loving what I’m seeing so far! Are all the documentaries listed on Amazon prime (or free online)? Or are these documentaries only available on dvds? Just asking before I start to purchase.
I would check your local library. I found all of these through our local library and through our state interlibrary loan. What I would do, is if you don’t have a specific video, I would go to amazon and see if there are others for that time period. There should be and then read the reviews. that would keep it cheap:) Stick to Ken Burns and his vidoes they are in depth:)
