We have a large deck, 24 x 24, that is totally unused due to the sun/heat. Like you we tried to do something in the early years we were here (gazebo) and the wind and rain destroyed it. This year we are building/extending a pergola onto our deck to train a huge wisteria to provide shade!!! Why we did do it years ago is the big question.
