Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law
Psalm 119:18
I think one of the first prayers that I started praying when I was first became a Christian were prayers like the above verse. All about opening my eyes so that I can start to “see things in God’s eyes.” Oh how little did I know back then! I think about all of the “little” things that God started showing me piece by piece in my life were so tiny compared to what is shown to me now. I was a new babe in Christ. Just as a newborn baby requires a little bit of milk every so often, that is how Christ feeds us as “new babes.” He couldn’t of just handed me meat and potatoes as a newborn. He had to give me sips of milk so that I could easily digest those tiny truths, so that eventually I could digest the bigger truths that He showed me as I grew. We are all at different stages in our walk with the Lord. I know, I get excited when God shows me something new and I want to share it with someone and most of the time, they aren’t ready to hear it and think I’m crazy!!!? Then I have to take a step back and slow WAY down (because I talk fast when I get excited) and start from the beginning. I realize that I myself, didn’t get the revelation in the beginning, I got it piece by piece. If you are sharing something with someone and you can tell that they aren’t ready to hear it, don’t give up. Just as you didn’t know that truth and had to be taught it over time, they are the same way. People don’t just get a spark of something and be changed overnight. It takes time. Be patient when sharing something new with a believer.
The eye is the lamp of the body; So if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.
Matthew 6:22
Our eyes are what brightens up our entire bodies. In the verse above the bible talks about that if our eyes are healthy, then our whole bodies will be light, but if our eyes are bad, then our bodies will be darkness. We know that the light is God. God is light.
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.
Psalm 119:37
How do we keep our spirit in the light? We need to train and develop our human spirit–to keep it full of the “light.”
- By meditation in the Word–speaking and talking it day and night.
- By practicing the Word of God–this is how your faith is built up
- By giving the Word first place in your life
- By instantly obeying the voice of your spirit–which is connected with the Holy Spirit
How we remain full of the light is we read God’s Word everyday. It doesn’t matter if you read one line or one chapter, however much your mind can process you read. You can’t get to the full knowledge of God just by hearing or reading someone else’s message. Yes, those are good things to hear, because it is someone planting seeds, but to get the full understanding of the Lord, we need to read HIS words. Read something everyday. Think about those verses, write them down and tape them to your kitchen window to look at each day. Talk to your children about what you read. Share with a friend. Keep it in the forefront of your communication all that you read that day.
If you come across something in the Word and it says to do something—–then DO IT! I have heard a preacher say, “We are doers of the Word of God.” I share that with my children to remind them that we DO what God’s Word says. We don’t just merely listen to it, we actually do it.
By giving the Word first place in your life. You either believe what the Lord says in His Word or you don’t. You have to start choosing to believe all the truths that Gods Word says. Faith—-is a choice. When you hear people say, “You never know what God is going to do.” That is NOT in the Bible, that is a man made phrase that many Christians are unfortunately fallen prey to because they don’t believe what God says. You don’t have to beg God for anything. We just need to believe God and be willing to receive it. He already wants to give you all the goodness of things. But you have to be willing to take it.
Whatever you do in life you need to be led by the spirit. If everyone was led by the Spirit of God, we would have it made. Life would not be confusion, it would be made perfect. God is not the author of confusion, he will ONLY lead you to what is HIS perfect plan. But, you can’t be head led, emotion led, feeling led, reasoning led, stress led, or person led. Everything that you do has to be GOD LED.
Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me-practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
We need to refuse to fret or have anxiety about anything. We need to bring our requests before the Lord and thank Him for the answer. This quiets our spirit and pacifies the troubled spirit that the devil tries to make us have. Even God’s word says to PRACTICE these things—-think about the right things. If it was easy He would expect us to “get it” but He knows it will be a struggle so He says to practice them.
Ephesians 1:18-19
….having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might..
We want the eyes of our heart to be enlightened and changed. We do not want to seek voices. We want our spirits to be knit with the Lords and by doing this we can know it is Him.
Keep your EYES full of God’s light by focusing on HIM everyday. When you do this, you will be confident to know that no matter what happens, your eyes are going to stay focused on HIM!
Be blessed as you go about your day today!
