American History for Middle or High School credit FREE

Hello everyone, I hope your day is going fantastic.  Today I am sharing what we are going to be doing for our American History curriculum.

I did have a free course on here from America the Story of Us, which I still am utilizing those videos, but I have taken out the study guides that they use as I find they are not working for my children.   This is just an update from when my daughter had done the course years ago…I find out now that a lot of it was very boring for her:)

This is how we are going to be focusing our time.  It IS a lot of reading and watching videos.  BUT it is a very thorough, and  in-depth American history course.  When they are finished they should have a great understanding about our history and that is my goal.

I chose to read books each week.  I went off reviews on Amazon.  Some of these I might do read alouds so that they don’t get too long and boring.  As I find that those who don’t enjoy reading, will enjoy someone reading to them much more effective.

We also are watching many videos.  The basis is America the Story of us, but I did throw in a lot of documentaries.  I scanned and watched as many of them as I could.  Always use caution when watching:)  For the majority…they seem like appropriate ones.

Some of the book recommendations and videos have links to PDFs that I would recommend printing off if you would like to make sure that your student is gaining a good understanding.

I also include some vocabulary words that will help your student as they are watching the movies as well as expand their vocabularies.

I also have some topics that were not covered in the books or videos but I wanted my children to be aware of the issues so I had them research by online what they mean and write a short page on them.

This will be a very good long year of American History and I feel very confident that when my child does all of this work, they will be very knowledgeable in history.

I hope you enjoy and can use this.  Have a wonderful blessed day!

Large family updating the girls zone BEFORE and AFTER photos

Hello everyone, I hope your day is going fantastic.  Today I am sharing all that we have done in the last few weeks to update the girls zone in the basement.  It has been an area that we just kind of set up and didn’t really get set perfectly. It was an area that I found to be cluttered the majority of the time:)  I would tell the girls to clean their stuff up and guess what?  I would go back down and it would still look messy…..who’s fault was it?  Mine.  I can’t expect them to keep their rooms clean, if I don’t give them some areas to put away all of their things easily.  So this is what we did.

This picture is of what it looked like before we did anything.  I have the cubes for the girls clothing.  The dollhouse is sitting on the floor with all of the accessories everywhere:)

This is a constant battle….mess…mess…mess:)

The bathroom, has no storage so it has shoved clutter as well:)

The bedroom has five girls in it, so you can imagine what it is like when your sister wants to set out all of her belongings in the middle of the floor?!?!?!

This is the after…..we repainted the walls…the same color just a tad different.  We moved the dollhouse,  and make a rule that when they are finished, no accessories are allowed on the wood floors:)

I got rid of the tv cords….my demise?!!?!?!  If you watch the video  below, you can see how easy it was to do that….even I did it!!!!

This is now the girls clothing area, they have another set of cubes so they don’t have to shove their clothing:)  I still have to get rid of those cords, that is left for hubby:)  It also has the baskets sitting on top…those went into the bathroom storage unit,  I was in the process of painting when I took this photo.

Here the girls set up their desks.  My husband made these for us.  Amazon sells them for $150-180 and we made them for $180.  Each girl got a desk.

We painted the doors grey to match the walls….it helps HUGELY in a family where everyone touches the white doors?!?!!?  I also got a cabinet where the laundry hamper is at…in the video:)

Here is the wall color in the bathroom after.

You can watch these two videos so you can see what it was like as we were doing the process. I hope you enjoy and have a blessed day!
