I have always used our family’s homemade spaghetti sauce recipe from pureed tomatoes that we froze. Well those are now gone and I haven’t been able to secure any masses of fresh tomatoes to turn into pureed sauce. I had to do my second alternative.
I bought a 10 pound can of tomato sauce from Sams Club and poured about half the can into the crockpot. The rest I froze for a later meal. I added the following:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tsp basil and oregano
- 2 tsp fresh minced garlic
- 2 tsp salt
Stir and let simmer. If you have some diced tomatoes on hand, add those. I just didn’t and this is what I had so I had to make it work. Tasted great, no complaints from anyone that there were tomato chunks in the sauce:)
If I could secure a large can of tomato paste, I would use that with water added. Those are just hard to come by down here:)
