One of the “convenience” foods that our family likes to eat are pot stickers. We can normally go through 2-3 packages rationing out them to the family. They get expensive if we eat them that way, so as with everything, if you can make it, you should:) I normally do not like to “fry” anything. We used to do a homemade Chinese meal with egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken and pot stickers. By the time I was finished, I felt like I was covered in oil, I did not enjoy doing it. Then we had forgotten about our delicious meal. Until my daughter mentioned it to me while I was making my grocery list for the month, so I picked up some wont ton wrappers and decided to make them.
I guarantee that they were at the end of my menu and I waited until the least possible time to make them. But I realized that with the help of my two daughters, who enjoyed wrapping them up—-it was much easier than back in the day. These are super simple to make. There is not “exact” filling method. We just used what we liked.
Here in a skillet we cooked 1 pkg ground breakfast sausage. Then added 1 T ground ginger, 2 T fresh minced garlic, and chopped up 6 green onions.
I then added about 4 cups shredded cabbage to the mixture.
We let that cook for a few moments to soften the cabbage and then we got to filling.
I am sure there is a RIGHT way to make these, but I didn’t care as long as they were just closed:)
We wiped a little bit of water on the corners to seal the pot sticker. The package said use egg whites. Water worked fine. If you are not going to cook these right away, cover them in plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator.
We then added about 2-3 T olive oil to the pan and let it heat up. I then set the potsticker into the pan and let it brown on one side. I carefully turned it over to let the other side cook. Then I added about 1/3 cup of water and put the lid on I let it cook for about 3 minutes. I then took them out and placed them in a serving bowl. I sprinkled them with soy sauce. They are yummy!
The next day I took the leftover filling and added some chicken bouillon to it and made a soup for my husband. He loved it.
Try these one night when you have the time to do them:) Be blessed and SMILE!
