French toast sticks are an easy breakfast for little ones to handle. They love to dunk them into maple syrup or strawberry sauce. These are very simple to make.
In our family we do everything “large sized”, we go through 2 loaves of bread for french toast. For this recipe I will give the amounts for one loaf of bread.
You will need the following:
- 1 loaf of bread—my favorite is Texas toast, it is thick and perfect for french toast. For this batch I used regular bread. It helps to keep the loaves frozen beforehand and then they don’t fall apart as easily.
- 12 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- cinnamon
In a large mixing bowl, mix your eggs, milk, and cinnamon.
Take your loaf of bread, cut it into strips of 3 per piece.
Since I was freezing these french toast sticks to have on hand for breakfast, I dipped my bread into the egg mixture and then placed them onto a cookie sheet.
If you want to make them to eat now, just fry them up on a griddle until brown or place this pan into the oven 400 for about 15 minutes.
After freezing solid I scooped them off of the pan and placed them into freezer bags. Since we don’t own a microwave I chose not to cook them beforehand. What I do for breakfast is place them while still frozen onto a cookie sheet and cook at 400 for 15-20 minutes.
If you had a microwave you could cook before hand and then freeze them. When it was time to serve, just place in the microwave for a few minutes.
