chocolate sheet cake

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla

Preheat oven 375.  Grease a large jelly roll style pan.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter, then add the water and cocoa.  Bring to a boil.  In a separate mixing bowl, mix the flour and sugar.  Pour the liquid over and beat vigorously.  Add remaining ingredients.  Stir until well blended.  Pour into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Fudgy frosting:

6 T shortening, 1 T vanilla,  and 6 T cocoa powder—beat together

slowly beat in powdered sugar—2 cups for fluffy spreadable kind, add more if you want it stiffer and a few Tablespoons of milk.  Do just enough so that it beats well–too much and it will be thinner.
